Artist

Self taught artist, self confessed darkling...

Currently based in Nottingham, UK, I am a part-time artist and full-time textile print designer, specialising in floral pattern.

Creativity has been my raison d'etre ever since I can remember. I always dreamed of becoming a professional artist but it wasn't until sometime during 2018 that I begin to take steps towards effectuating this new life and feeling like there were possibilities within my grasp!

At present, I spend my evening hours flourishing brushes in my make-shift studio, listening to music and devouring chocolate while my octopus plushie provides some much needed cuteness. We both long for an opulent workshop in which to fully engage in and create all things dark and beautiful, but until then, right here will do :)

I have always been an emotional painter, where inspiration sparks from personal experience, and that around me which I find beautiful and compelling. A thriving obsession of mine has been all things of a dark and twisted nature, alongside the spellbinding imagery of our natural world. Often I enjoy finding playful and spontaneous ways in which to splice together these rich concepts, hiding details (often cats, let's be honest!) where I can between layers and brush strokes.

Being a textile designer by day, I can't deny this also has a significant influence on my work. Colour and patten, stylised motifs and texture - they creep onto my canvas mostly while my mind pauses or wanders. But again, I welcome these intuitive moments and appreciate a more relaxed approach to creating.

Painting for me is a medicinal process, and so my practice does not follow any particular rules. I have a very curious mind, and relish the experimenting and learning that comes which each new piece.

Every painting feels alive in a sense, its own creature! Throughout the process they evolve as I do - we frolic, reminisce, fight and console each other which continues to amuse me, since I never really know how the finished work will turn out, only that it becomes a small insight to my being, a visual diary of sorts :)
